Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship Program 2025

The 2023 Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship Program, a prestigious opportunity, is now open for applications from qualified candidates. This esteemed fellowship will operate for twelve months, from April 2025 to March 2026.

The Matsumae International Foundation develops on the notion of its architect with its primary theme as: Towards A Greater Understanding Of Japan And A Lasting World Peace. This theme reflects the foundation’s commitment to promoting international understanding and peace through academic exchange and research collaboration. As a fellowship recipient, you will be expected to contribute to this theme through your research and interactions with the academic community in Japan.

Matsumae International Foundation introduced this yearly Research Fellowship Program in 1980. The scholarship is devoted to Ph.D. and Doctoral program holders who will spend 3 to 6 months operating in different areas of study. Areas of study, including natural science, engineering, and medicine, are considered priorities.

Fellowships are performed at different participating institutions in Japan. Matsumae International Foundation intends to invite about 15 students and researchers. After the conclusion of your scholarship, you will anticipate returning to your home nation to apply the skills and understanding you will have gained to improve life and facilitate peace. During your fellowship, the Matsumae International Foundation will provide you with comprehensive support, including assistance with visa application, orientation upon arrival, and access to research facilities and resources at the host institution.   • Selected fellows will receive a generous monthly stipend of $1,448.67 to cover their cost of living and study materials expenses, ensuring a worry-free experience during their research.
  • You will get insurance for travel abroad or Accident and Sickness Insurance.
  • Scholars will get a round-trip air ticket. The pass is an economy class ticket for the most direct and economical path between the closest foreign airport from their nation and Tokyo.
  • Upon landing in Japan, you will receive a start-up value of $790.24. This funding is intended to cover your initial expenses, such as accommodation, transportation, and basic living costs, during the first few weeks of your stay in Japan. It is designed to help you settle in and start your research activities without financial stress.

Qualification

  • The program embraces non-Japanese candidates from every nation of the world.
  • Candidates for the scholarship must complete a doctorate program or its equivalent during the application period.
  • You must apply and get an Invitation letter from one of the host universities in Japan.
  • Applicants are required to be 49 years old or younger during the application process.
  • If you are to be considered, you must indicate that you have enough skills in English or Japanese.
  • Applicants are not required to have previous or present experience living in Japan for long periods.
  • You must have a job in your home nation and be prepared to return after schooling.

Application

To be deemed for the fellowship, you must secure a request and admission letter for a scholarship, research, or project visit at a university of your desire in Japan. This letter is a crucial part of your application and should be obtained before you submit your application to the Matsumae International Foundation. The host university plays a significant role in the fellowship, providing academic support, research facilities, and a platform for collaboration. You are free to select a host university, which may be any institution, federal research universities, or other aligning facilities in the private sector.

Up to the recipient of admission, you must download the fellowship application form from MIF’s webpage. The form for application is required to be accurately and filled and, after presentation, supported with the documents below:

  • You are required to attach a Research Project suggestion that you plan to work on during the scholarship period.
  • Candidates are required to attach an overview of their most crucial publications.
  • Sketch a personal record and curriculum vitae notifying the most exposing educational and expertise details.
  • Demand a recommendation letter from your employer to be printed with the firm’s letterhead.
  • You must present copies of every educational certificate and diploma you have received from your past research. They may have to do with Ph.D, BA/BS, MA/MD/MS.
  • Keep in mind that you should attach a letter of invitation and admission signed by the professor or student in charge at the host university, printed out on the host university’s letterhead.
