Kuwait Eases Visa Laws: No Degree Required, Visit Visa Extended to 3 Months

Kuwait has introduced significant changes to its visa policies, aiming to make the country more accessible to tourists, families, and business travelers. The updates, effective this week, reflect a broader shift in Kuwait’s approach to attracting global visitors.

Key Changes to Kuwait’s Visa Policy

The latest updates make travel to Kuwait more convenient and flexible, with adjustments including the removal of educational requirements, extended visit visa durations, and broader airline options.

1. Removal of University Degree Requirement

Previously, a university degree was required for certain visit visa applications. As of Tuesday, August 5, this rule has been abolished. Travelers planning to visit Kuwait no longer need a degree to qualify for entry.
This change particularly benefits families of expatriates and visitors from countries where higher education is less common.

2. Visit Visas Extended to 90 Days With Renewal Options

Kuwait now offers a more flexible visit visa system:

  • Initial visit period: 90 days
  • Renewal options: Extendable up to 6 or even 12 months by paying the required fees
  • Access type: Single or multiple entry
  • Charges: Final pricing to be approved by the Cabinet soon

Authorities note that visa violations have been minimal, giving them confidence to ease these regulations.

3. Removal of National Carrier Restriction

Travelers are no longer required to use Kuwait’s national carriers to enter the country. This change opens the market to more regional and international airlines.
For example, Middle East Airlines (MEA) can now transport passengers holding family visit visas—previously limited to Kuwaiti carriers.

4. Expanded Kinship Rules

Eligibility for family visit visas has been expanded to include relatives up to the fourth degree. This is especially significant for Kuwait’s large expatriate population, many of whom come from cultures with strong extended family connections.

5. Immediate Notification for Security Flags

Applicants flagged for security reasons will now be informed immediately. However, the responsibility to resolve such issues remains with the applicants through proper legal or diplomatic channels.

6. Visa Fees Under Review

While many changes are already in effect, the Cabinet is expected to finalize visa fees soon. The aim is to set competitive rates that encourage tourism without creating a financial burden.

Kuwait’s Regional Ambition

The Minister of Interior emphasized that these reforms aim to position Kuwait as a regional leader in visa facilitation, making the process more efficient, transparent, and responsive to traveler needs.

For those planning a trip—especially with family—this is one of the best times to visit, as Kuwait’s entry process has never been simpler.
